Sky Studios Elstree, built by BAM Construction and Middlesex Limited, is a large-scale studio development which includes 13 sound stages (some as large as 60,000 sq ft) alongside production offices, workshops, post-production suites and a screening cinema. It has a strong sustainability vision; designed to be net-zero carbon, powered by renewable energy (with up to 20% generated on-site through solar), and committed to circular-economy construction practices.
Middlesex delivered the firestopping works on this project, with scope including providing and installing passive fire and acoustic stopping to all compartmentation lines, including walls, floors, risers, and service penetrations. Works included fire sealing around all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hydraulic services using approved, tested systems to achieve the required fire resistance and acoustic performance. Middlesex also installed fire-rated cavity barriers, including Firefly systems (where required).
In keeping with Middlesex’s quality and safety focus, installations complied with all relevant standards, approved details, and manufacturer’s instructions.
Middlesex was also appointed to deliver the drylining works.
